Director of Nursing – Full Time ⬇️

The Director of Nursing is responsible for providing strategic leadership and administration in the areas of patient care, education, safety and quality in accordance with organizational policies and standards of professional nursing practice. This position is also responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating long and short-term goals for nursing departments. The Director of Nursing maintains awareness of legislation affecting nursing practice and implements as needed as well as maintains sound organizational relationships and shared decision making with the Board, Administrative Team, Physicians, other department managers, and all stakeholders. This position acts as a resource person for all members of the department and others as requested. Performs these functions through effective management of personnel, material and fiscal resources.

Major Duties

Leadership:

  • In collaboration with unit/department managers, participates in decision making and policy formulation demonstrating systems thinking and change management skills.
  • Assumes a leadership role, in partnership with physician and facility leaders, in managing the quality of services provided across the care delivery continuum and within the larger organization.
  • Attends hospital and medical staff committees as appropriate; attends Board of Trustees and physician meetings to report on activities of nursing departments as needed.
  • Participates in community educational programs and meetings as the Hospital's representative.
  • Provides leadership, mentoring, feedback, and guidance to direct reports, using principals of the Norton County Hospital (NCH) Nursing Philosophy.

  • Role Models AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank you) to assist staff in: Optimizing the patient’s experience by reducing the patient and family’s anxiety and increasing the patient’s compliance; and developing positive relationships with other departments to foster patient satisfaction.

Operations:

  • Oversees, develops, allocates, and administers the budget for assigned departments, based on past requirements, future patient care needs, and available resources and for quality management outcomes.
  • Develops, implements and assures the organization's plan for providing nursing care and other assigned patient services in accordance with the mission/vision/values of the Hospital.
  • Manages human resources via workforce planning, employment decisions, reward & recognition for exemplary performance, identification of current/future needs and skill sets.
  • Assists in the selection, implementation and evaluation of information technology assuring optimal support of patient care function.
  • Evaluates problems and concerns in assigned departments in terms of ensuring safe, effective, quality patient care, the impact the involved staff and the overall Hospital.
  • Recruits and retains top talent through effective communication, performance management and professional development.
  • Leads development, implementation and evaluation of evidence-based, quality clinical nursing practice consistent with current nursing research, organizational and national practice standards.

Qualifications

  • BSN/BAN degree from an accredited university or college is required; Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Active and current Kansas Registered Nurse (RN) License is required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years health care experience is required.
  • Previous management experience is preferred.
  • Ability to serve as a change agent.
  • Ability to think critically and problem solve.
  • Ability to follow Performance Improvement and systems thinking.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to coach and mentor others.
  • Knowledge of budget management both capital and operating.

Licensed Specialist Clinical Social Worker (LSCSW) — Full Time ⬇️

Norton County Hospital has an immediate, full-time career opportunity for a Licensed Specialist Clinical Social Worker (LSCSW). The LSCSW will provide quality clinical behavioral health services including comprehensive diagnostic behavioral health assessments, interventions, education, advocacy, referrals and consultations primarily for patients of Norton Medical Clinic. Candidate will also provide services for Norton County Hospital and community partners, as needed.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provide quality clinical care and consultation to Providers.
  • Cultivate education, administration and self-management skills for targeted populations with psychological or behavioral health issues.
  • Promote Provider’s knowledge of patient behavioral health issues and provide education to assist with enhancing primary care utilization of behavioral health interventions.
  • Promote smooth interface between medicine and specialized mental/behavioral health care throughout the organization.
  • Collaborate and co-manage the patient’s behavioral health care with consistent, expeditious feedback to referring Providers.
  • Provide on-site availability for crisis triage and intervention.
  • Document the clinical behavioral health aspect of patient interventions and track the patient referrals to specialty behavioral health care.
  • Position is based on an integrated behavioral health model working side-by-side with our Medical Staff.
  • Attend agency staff and departmental meetings, as needed.
  • Coordinate and promote the KU Tele-Behavioral Health Program (Psychology and Psychiatry) in Norton Medical Clinic.

Surgery Coordinator, RN — Full Time ⬇️

Norton County Hospital has a career opportunity for Registered Nurse as a Surgery Coordinator. This position is responsible for coordinating Surgical Services, Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) and the Sterile Processing for Norton County Hospital and Norton County Medical Clinic. RN will float to Med/Surg acute care when no surgeries are scheduled based on patient needs.

Primary duties include but not limited to:

  • Managing and coordinating schedule of surgical cases, including sterile and non-sterile procedures
  • Scheduling staff for surgery, PACU, sterile processing and on-call for emergent events

Surgery Scrub Tech & Central Sterilizing — Full Time ⬇️

Norton County Hospital has a full-time employment opportunity for a Scrub Tech & Central Sterilizing. On-the-job training is available for this position, certification not required. This position has a shared on-call schedule for nights, weekends and holidays which qualifies for additional compensation.

Primary responsibilities for Scrub Tech/Central Sterilizing include but not limited to:

  • Assisting with pre-operative cleaning of surgery equipment
  • Assisting surgeon with prepping patient
  • Assisting during surgical procedures, post-op dressings and prepare for recovery room
  • Preparing surgical specimen for laboratory, and post-op disinfection
  • Assisting with cleaning and preparing operating room between patients
  • Responsible for cleaning of all surgical areas

Office Assistant for Radiology Department — Full Time ⬇️

Norton County Hospital has a full-time employment opportunity for an Office Assistant in our Radiology Department. Position is 40 hours Monday through Friday.

Primary responsibilities include but not limited to the following:

  • Incoming and outgoing phone calls for the department
  • Patient access duties such as scheduling appointments, verifying insurance, making sure appropriate paperwork is complete prior to procedures and registering patients

Patient Registration and Admissions — Full Time ⬇️

Norton County Hospital has a full-time employment opportunity in our admissions area of Outpatient Services. This position is 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Typical hours will be 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., however may vary at times to provide registration coverage. Primary responsibilities include registering patients, insurance verification, point-of-service payment estimation and collection, providing and explaining forms to patients, answering any patient questions, and helping patients feel comfortable when waiting to see the physician or other ancillary departments. This position also reviews and updates admission records from non-business hours.

The Patient Access Representative is often the first person a patient or visitor sees when they arrive at the facility. This applicant must have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. Applicant must also have strong computer skills and work efficiently with attention to detail. Dietary – Part Time ⬇️

Norton County Hospital has a part-time employment opportunity in our Dietary Department. This position would work 2 to 3 weekdays that would primarily be evening 11:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. shifts. This position will also work every other weekend and every other holiday. Duties include helping with lunch and preparing supper as well as department cleaning. Dietary staff have rotating weekend and holiday shifts which include addition pay for those shifts. NCH offers competitive starting wages.
